Some years ago I was given a Didge by a Brother from another Mother.
It was essentially a single long piece of hollow timber, which made a soulfull bellow that reminds one of the time before we bit into the Apple (registered trademark, no reproduction without written permission, all rights reserved). It was completely undecorated apart from the natural grains and pigments that make wood so attractive. So I immediately began to wonder what to imprint on it. I decided on burning straight away so i pulled out my dusty soldering iron which at a whopping 25 watts burned a fingernails depth per second per second so it took a great accumulation of these random segments of time to create any small animal. I have since bought a pyrography kit and started creating more rapidly. For me, rapidly means small increments of change over many Aeons of contemplation, like a tortoise considering which of two blades of grass is greener. But the process is alot like tattooing. Each stroke of the pen is final, and there is no going back. Unless you are willing to peel back the skin to peer underneath. Pyrography was a popular art for people (mostly women) in Victorian times, although Aboriginals practiced it from a time when dreams where still important. It has since fallen from the consciousness of popular culture like the game Frogger, or spirituality. So much so that it doesn't even appear as an option in my spell checker...
But anyway, I would recommend trying it, the smell alone is worth the effort, it also has the coolest name of any art that I know of. If you know of a cooler name i would love to hear it.
I could always poll it on DA, but I have far more meaningless things to do.
